  • disableing knock sensor.

I have heard that by disableing the knock sensor it can take up to .2 sec. off in the 1/4 mile. is this true? If so how do you disable it?

      Knock sensor

Just unplug it and hope it doesn't disable your piston. Use caution and common sense when diabling your knock sensor.

You just bought an 85.5 and want to disconnect the Knock Sensor for horsepower???

TAKE A BREAK HERE FOR A MOMENT!!!

READ ALL THE PREVIOUS THREADS ABOUT TUNING!!!

You will destroy a perfectly good head or bottom end if you think that sort of sophmoric garbage.

EDIT: Sorry, but as a fellow 85.5 owner I really needed to spout out about the possibility of destroying the original components of these cars. There were only 439 of these cars made. If you feel the urge to blow something up, please consider installing a JY TC engine and have at it. Down the road, when the engine numbers and VIN tag have to match, you'll understand what I mean.

            Don't Unplug the Knock Sensor

The knock sensor pulls out timing advance when it detects preignition. Removing advance under boost reduces the power output, but saves the engine by avoiding deadly premature detonation. DON'T DISCONNECT IT!!!

Disconnecting the KS is not "Free Power". It comes a cost of considerable risk of $erious and expen$ive engine damage.
A car with a blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head, or broken piston isn't very fast anymore. It's just dead weight!

You have a VERY NICE SVO, but are not yet old enough to drive it, I believe. You are VERY FORTUNATE! Many on this board would kill to have a car like it. If you want to enjoy it and have it last awhile, then leave the knock sensor plugged in! It is safety assurance.

Yes i know how fortunate I am. thats why I asked here because i figured you guys would know the good and the bad of pretty much everything you can do to these cars. and after hearing all this i am pretty sure I don't want to do this anymore. thanks for the info and you can always count on me to ask here before I do something to the car.
