  • Molded Bi-Wing

Has anyone ever used a bi-wing to make a fiberglass mold one piece unit?

I am going to ask a couple of fiberglass hood/spoiler manufactors how fesible this would be. Might be cheaper to go the back door mom and pop 'glass shop to avoid any possible patent/copyright issues.
Seems to me that a one piece bi-wing would handle vibration/wind better than the two piece. Maybe strengthen the upper wing to prevent sagging?

          Will,

There was a guy in FL who had made some fiberglass repos and was selling them on evilbay about a year ago. I think his add said he had produced about 10 wings. I don't know if he was just blowing smoke or not. There was a picture of one on the floor in a shop. So it can be done. Don't forget those little hold down tabs!

I saw an aftermarket one advertised in a catalog a few years ago. (before I owned an SVO). It may have been in JC Witney even... I've thumbed thru old catalogs occasionally at swap meets and such, but have not seen one since. I'm not sure a one piece is the answer, but I'm sure you could make one that is sturdier than the factory one.

I saw some at the saac event about five years ago, they where molded as one unit with no seam on the upper spoiler. They looked alright but one would not use it for a repo for the SVO.

I saw that one too Dave, I had an 85 GT years ago and remember there being a few aftermarket bi wings for non SVO Mustangs. I even remember seeing a triple tier one! I know a one piece would not be for the resto SVO crowd, but a nice option for owners with severly cracked or sagging ones.

Cool I made the forum. I am the guy with the spoiler on E-Bay. New member. 84 9W - and an 86 convertible conversion in the paint shop. I have a friend who knows the guy that makes the spoiler. I will look into getting in touch with him. It is not bad but could use some work in the molding and finishing department. A one piece would be awesome.

                          Re-pro bi-wings..

                          Mustang Matt,

I was watching that auction and bidding on that unit!! If you have any others for sale or if we can get re-pro units fabbed I would love to have a non-original unit for my 5.0.

                          tia & welcome!

Matt, thats some good timing. Maybe you could hook us all up with the guys who does the spoilers. I contacted Design Auto Concepts about making SVO rear spoilers and here is the response they sent:

                            NO
WE'VE HAD SOME REQUESTS BUT VERY FEW OVER THE LAST YEAR.
I'LL PASS IT ALONG TO R&D DEPT. WHO KNOWS?
THANKS FOR LOOKING AT OUR PRODUCTS AND PRESENTING YOUR NEEDS.
                            RON

So I will have to take them off my list, I have a few more I am waiting for a response from but Matt have an option too.

I know where the guy that had some made works, here in the Jupiter area. He reportedly had ten or so made some time ago. I assume it was him that had them for sale as he is also a big Shelby buff. I will contact him as soon as I can and see if he can get me in touch with the guy that did them for him. Maybe he still has a few around.

As far as the other one went it had definite potential but would have required more work than I cared to put into it. It probably could have been made to look OK. It fooled me when I bought the car, only after poking around where the lower portion of it did not match the upper portion of the lower wing did I realize it was fiberglass. I did sell it.
