My hood insulation is starting to look ratty. Is there any option for this, do we need it at all? Is there any after market stuff that looks better and functions well if it is necessary? Thanks, Mark

There was a debate a little while ago on whether these are needed or not. A lot of folks (including me) are running their cars without them and there have been no issues. I think one of the benefits to the hood pad is that if your engine ever catches fire, the hood insulation is supposed to help smother it.
As far as options for replacement go you have a few:
1) Find a NOS one
2) Modify a 87-93 Mustang hood pad (use your current one as a template)
3) Purchase an aftermarked hood pad (I've always seen them with a aluminum foil type material and I think they're one size fits all so you'll have to modify it as well)
4) Paul over at SVPU is trying to get these pads reproduced, but so far we haven't seen any final word on if this is going to happen or not
