  • Rear spoiler questions

My rear hatch was replaced with an LX hatch w/spoiler off a late model fox due to rust issues. Is this a pretty much 100% match to the spoiler delete option offered in '86? I think the LX spoiler up to 1993 was the same as the GT spoiler offered in 1986, which I'm guessing is the spoiler they used with the option. I tried doing a search practically everywhere to find some pictures, but came up empty handed.

the spoiler off a gt is the same -- the only difference is it is painted the same color of the car.

      Spoiler Delete

When an SVO came with the spoiler delete option, it was the same spoiler as the 84-86 GT spoiler and like the GT it was painted the same color as the car. Many of the late 86 SVO's came equipped this way.

The 84 GT spoiler might have been different than the SVO. The SVO one has an E4ZX number on it. This was the first year for this style. Probably no visual differance. These are not easy to find as it was an extra cost option except on the Ann. cars.

I kind of figured finding an '86 GT spoiler would be next to impossible. Its the last of that body style foxbody Mustang, and the first year for the 3rd brake light. So it has to be a GT, and it has to be an '86. Looks like I'm in for the infamous "needle in a haystack" seek and find. w00t!

              See other thread...

I had a spoiler for a very long time that would have worked but I wound up giving it away. Any LX rear hatch spoiler through 93 is correct and will work for you. Try www.MustangPartsSpecialties.com in Winder, Georgia and they'll probably have several to choose from.

                Just checked my link

I just checked my link and they have exactly what you're looking for. They want $75 which isn't too bad as long as it comes with a working 3rd brake light.

                  Lower 86 unit

I have an 86 lower spolier w/o brake light that had been repainted in RED.

You can have for free if you'd like it, just have to pay shipping from San Diego, CA.

There was no such Ford part as an 86 lower spoiler for the 3 door that did not have a brake light. In 86 the brake light became manditory and all 3 door mustangs came with a spoiler and brake light. The 86 one should be very common. 84 and 85 are hard to find because it was optional. There should also be some aftermarket ones around too with or without the light. There was a change sometime between 86 and 93 and I don't recall if all the bolt holes still lined up. I know the Cobra spoiler was different in 93. Yes they changed to the open style.

                      Brake light 85.5 to 86

Yes the third rear brake light was mandatory for all auto manufacturers in 86. The light is one of the few differences between the 85.5 and the 86 SVO's.

I have an 86 spoiler, black, E-6 part number molded into the bottom. You can have it if you like, there is one stud missing and the mounting area is half broken off. You pay for a big box and the shipping and I will send it to you.
Yes it does have a third brake light. No cracks, I would put it on my car but have none that need it, you are more than welcome to it.

                          Re: Lower 86 unit

Mike, bring that to Hangerber Hangover's with you in February. I have a use for it. If it's red, I know who you got it from, LOL!
