Recently becoming an owner of a SVO I know it took quite some time to find one, and spare parts are not easy to find, nor cheap. I know that all SVO's are manual trannsmission, is it the same for the Mercury Capri? and the Merkur, because i know where several of them are located, and they arecheap. Are the engines the same? ( same turbo, same cubic inch )

Parts Is Parts
It depends which year SVO's and which cars you are talking about. In general, because of their mechanical similarities, Merkurs, Turbocoupes and Turbocougars can serve as useful and affordable sources of parts for SVO owners. Turbo Capris and Mustang GT Turbos are about as scarce, or more so, as SVO's. They really don't figure into the total used parts market to any extent, although many of these cars' parts can be swapped into an SVO and vice-versa.
If one expands the SVO used parts substitute market to include the Mark VII Lincoln and rear wheel drive Coninental (suspension and brakes) and regular 84-86 Mustangs (basic body and interior parts) one can find many relatively inexpensive parts that interchange with those on an SVO.
If you have any specific questions about parts interchange, substitutions and possible sources, just ask. More than likely someone on this board has tried it and can give you an answer.
For example, the 84 SVO and the 83-84 TC and 84 Turbo Cougar all use the same T5 manual trans with identical ratios. The 85-86 SVO's use a different ratio T5 that is"World Class" . Another good substitute for the 84 SVO trans is the 87-88 Turbocoupe T5, which is "World Class" and has similar ratios to the SVO.
What year is your SVO and what parts do you need?Last edited by Eyelawdoc; 01-13-2004, 01:34 AM.
