  • Newbie Computer Question

I have the opportunity to trade some V8 parts for an E6 manifold and LA3 computer. Would this computer work well in my otherwise stock 84 SVO? Or should I hold out and buy a PE?

The car is basically stock for now, but upgrades will come with time and money.

    Thanks for any input.

I don't have personal experience with the LA3 I put a PE in my 84, but what I have read from other peoples experience is that the LA series computers tend to run smoother because they operate at a different frequency. The PE will plug right in and probably cost you at least $200 unless you try to get one at Autozone and try to use your original for the core which will only cost $100. Usually you can find a LA3 for $50- $100. I'm actually considering in the future to do the LA3 swap but for now I have a damaged turbo to contend with. As far as the E6 goes its always good to have a spare. I'm sure yours already has one because I'm sure an E3 would not have lasted this long without cracking.
Oh and if you do the LA swap you will need 35lb injectors and have to install an ACT sensor.

the LA3 is the best way to go. you will need: 35lb injectors (get them cleaned before you put them in), and an ACT sensor. the ACT sensor is so the computer can read the compressed air temp and compensate for it. some people have run without it, but I'd put one in. on the '84 intakes, there are 2 possible mounting places for it, I havn't done it yet, but it looks like there is a hole drilled, tapped, and plugged for it.

you will need to run a line to your computer for the newly requred ACT, and possibly change some pins around.

some people have picked up 30+ hp by just doing this change.

      did I miss anything out?

the older comps ran at lower mhz than the la3 which is double from what i heard and thats why it is smoother at idle and so on
