  • leaky fuel line connector...

In my 84 (w/an XR4Ti engine) I don't have the fuel pulse dampener that others have mentioned. Instead I have a simple brass hose connector. Problem is that the fuel tank side of the line leaks on the connector b/c the hard plastic line doesn't fit well over the brass connector, even with the hose clamp. On the engine side, the rubber hose w/hose clamp fits fine. This is the same setup on both the feed and return lines. Only feed line currently leaks.

What can I use to connect the hard plastic line coming from the firewall to the rubber hose that goes to the fuel rail? Both hoses are 9/32" I.D.

This is the type of connector on there currently with a hose clamp on both ends:

Is brass even ok for fuel?!?!?

    TIA,

The Ford Dealer and NAPA have the correct fuel line solutions for your issues. Hardware store brass will get you in trouble.

yep -- I believe it is called a fuel line repair kit ???? --

Get that brass off there before it causes a fire.

You don't really need the pulse dampner, it should run fine without it.

        thanks guys

yea.. I figured that the brass probably wasn't good. (but just so you know, that's how it was when I got the car.. I didn't put it there!) Once this is fixed, it's on the the coolant leak!

Maybe then I'll feel comfortable running it for more than 5 minutes at a time.

When you say you have an XR engine , do you have the square intake manifold or does it have the stock inline intake ? I would suggest getting the proper fuel rail and pulse dampner for whichever manifold you have and then get a repair kit from an autoparts store. I got one from Pepboys . It was kinda a pain to do but it was worth it.

I have the square intake and correct fuel rail.. just no dampener. Would kragen/Pep Boys/Napa have the correct dampener? Will it make that much (if any) difference under autox/road race conditions?!?

I've read other places that it isn't all that necessary, but I'm not sure if that holds under race conditions....

Whether its necessary or not I was just thinking it would be better than riggin it. Especially since your talking about fuel. A number of people with Ford turbos have lost their cars to fires. As long as you use the proper fuel line splicer , hose( rubber hose should be rated for high pressure fuel) and proper clamps you should be fine.
