  • Now it wont start...

So prior to me disconnecting the FMIC and going through my high idle problem, I try and start the car (hopeing the high idle problem solved it self), but the car wont start. Just cranks over.

So then I start checking the wiring, coil, plug wires and such. Everything seems fine. But the car just cranks over without even sounding like its trying to start.

I notice the amp light is not coming on when I turn the key on. I verify with my daily driver that it should come on in the run position. So I poke around some more.

I find that I had disconnected the voltage regulator harness. I connect it back up (my amp light comes on now) but it still doesn't start.

I checked that I'm getting fuel pressure, I pulled the coil wire off the distributer and it's sparking.

Not being the most mechanically inclined (sp?) person, I'm stuck...

Any of you SoCal SVOers wanna come help me out? Beer and BBQ offered as payment
Hoping to get on the track soon

    Re: V

Hear the fuel pump cycling on when you turn the key? (Fuel would be answered)......

Try pulling codes. Maybe there is something else that is also disconnected. If so, the codes can point you in the proper direction to look.

One area I would check is the TPS and its wiring.

        Fuel

Got fuel (I do hear the pump when I turn the key on).

I'll pull the codes too...it was late last night.

          Codes

          Pulled the codes

          Got KOEO codes

15 - EEC ROM Test Failed. Did some searching and found this...
Checksum Base Address : This is Ford’s internal program checksum designed to verify that the original EEC program is correct. If set to 0 you disable the checksum and the fault code 15 ROM test failed is not displayed during a KOEO or KOER test of the EEC.

Because I have a chip in the car is that why I'm getting this?

23 - TPS Out of Range...Hmmm...I think someone said that one

I'll go adjust...would that cause the car not to start?

51 - ECT Sensor out of rang indicated circuit open. The car is not warmed up. Is that why?

          That was all I got.

I'll definatly do the TPS, any thoughts on the 15?

          Thanks!

Yes indeed, just went through this with a guy in Columbus here...the TPS was so outta whack that the car was not starting anymore.

After about a grand worth of parts and a mechanic...

            Guess what it was.

Look at your TPS and ECT ground reference wireing (black with gray stripe) if that wire is broken or disconnected the car will not start. I just went through this issue with another SoCal owner's 86 SVO.

The ECT and the TPS share the same ground reference wire. If the ECT code shows an open circuit there is a 99% chance that the open is in this wire!

                TPS

It was the TPS. Went and got a new one and everything was great!

                Thanks for the help!

                    Thanks!

So on Sunday it's off to California Speedway for a Solo2 event. This will be the shake down for my Willow Springs Event in a couple of weeks.

I'm usually the only CP car out there so they combine and PAX the Preps and Mods. i usually dont do so good but it still gives me a chance to get back into competition mode.

                    Thanks again for everyones help.

Actually I didn't even get to go. After all the trouble of hooking up the trailer and loading up the truck...I pull the car up on the trailer, go under the trailer to tie the car down and what do I find...the water pump is leaking! No time to fix it as I was already running late.

ouch! sorry to hear that... it's always something w/these cars.. at least you're getting through these problems now and at home rather than later and on the track.

thanks for the links.. Ingrid's been wanting to look for solo2 events for her red V6 to run down there instead of coming up here all the time.

looking forward to an all new season!!!
