ok, heres the scoop. When i start my 85 up after letting it sit for about a half hour or even up to overnight, it cranks for about 3-4 secs before it starts. After it starts if i turn it off itll restart with almost no cranking time and itll do this for about up to 20 mins of sitting after initial start up. Fuel pump? If i let it sit for about 2 days, it will start up quick with no prob. I don't get it, overnight hard crank, 2 days or more easy startup, and it seems as though the longer i let it sit (days) the faster it will start.
I hooked a fuel pressure gauge to it and this is what i got. Initial start up, when i turn the key and pumps prime the needle didn't climb at all. Then after about 10 secs w/ KOEO the needle started climbing at about a rate of 1psi per sec until about 10psi and then it stopped climbing. Then i primed it again and the needle climbed up faster this time and went to about 34psi. I tried cranking and boom started up right away. Bad fuel pump?
Let it sit for a half hour. Primed the pump, needle did not rise. Cranked and cranked for 3 secs while watching the needle and it started climbing slowly and then fired at about 20 psi. Rocky and shaky but then the engine smoothed out at about 30 psi with the needle climbing while engine still running and stopped at 40psi. This whole procedure is what i experience every time it sits for 20 mins or so.
WTF is going on? Car runs fine but does feel a little fuel starved at full boost (15psi) in the upper RPM band. But my A/F gauge is in the green meaning plenty richment, no? I do plan on my 255lph swap soon, hopefully this will fix this. Maybe my high press in line is going bad. When you KOEO prime the pump, is pressure supposed to spike up right away or is the slow needle sweep normal? I should also include that this started happening when i did my LA3 swap, the very first time i started it after doing the swap.
