  • bypass valve question

if i`m right, an 87 and 88 turbo thunderbird come with a factory bypass valve installed. can`t this be put on the svo using the intercooler from the turbo bird since it`s plumbed etc., thus making it easy to put a bpv on an svo.(if you have a few spare turbo coupes sitting around as i do)
    thanks, alan

They did? New one on me.

But to answer your question .. yeah, using a TC/IC and drilling out the pre-existing hole that's located on the front pass-side corner .. and tapping it for a 1" male end so you can run a hose to the BPV is one way to do it.

That's how mine was done (with the Tiny Avenger kit). I used a SAAB bpv for a while, then upgraded to a Baileys. I can't find a picture of it right now, and it's currently being fitted with a FMIC set up.

        no i`m not?

i may be wrong, haven`t researched it yet, i do know there was an apparatus installed at the factory on the t bird turbo ic with a fitting and two outlets for hoses that has something to do with
relieving excess pressure or back pressure while boosting in between shifts. my recollection of this is very vague/ as is where i saw the info. i do remember it was an improvement over the old type set up.
i`ll inspect the hose routing tomorrow on my tc`s from the ic and see where they go and try to figure what they do. as well as looking up the info i once saw.
thanks for your input, as i said i may be wrong, but i`m looking into it, that`s why i posed the question.
until i find out what the turbo coupe set up is and what it does, my question is unanswered. again thanks and if you`d like to chime in, be my guest.

You may be referring to the small fitting installed for the power brakes. It's a small venturi that creates vacuum under boost conditions so the power brakes, cruise control, and other vacuum boosted units still function after a long boost run.
