Man is it cold here!
Working in the kitchen....
Can someone describe the "proper" way to make use of that funny little black securing mount below the TPS?
See the attached pic!
Thanks
Chris
I think I figured it out. The plug is supposed to slide onto the little "track" under the "O". And that would be neat if one of the track "rails" wasn't broken. Maybe I'll try some superglue. Or better yet ... my local Ford dealer probably has lots of those neat little nameless brackets in stock. (I wonder what the part number is?)
So the next question is what's supposed to go through the "O" of the bracket?
Chris
What is that thing called in the upper right of my picture? The thing that has some sort of electrical "motor" attached to it?
I am really sorry I am so out of touch on this this stuff , but I just don't know!!!???
Perhaps I wanna replace this thing while I'm looking at it!
Chris
If the car was idling fine before your tear down then it is probably fine. You may want to take it apart and clean the valve part of it. You will want to use some intake cleaner to loosen up the carbon deposits.

Unscrew the solenoid end(end with the electrical plug) from the IAC body(it's held on by two screws) before cleaning it with the carb cleaner. You don't want to mess up the solenoid with that stuff.
The wires on the TPS are suppose to go thru this hole, and the wire connector mounts on a slide rail which appears to be broken off on your plastic part that is attached to the throttle body. Here is the first of 2 pictures.
I am sorry to buff this thread but I'm still confused.
Does the TPS connector slide onto and "underneath" and attach to the "O" bracket?
Or does the TPS connector slide into the "O" bracket. I am just trying to figure out FMC logic here. My car was toyed with extensively when it was young to find an overheating problem so many cable routes were lost. Just trying to put it back right.
Many thanks for all your help.
Chris
Here is a picture of a broken mounting bracket for the TPS connector, broken the same way as your part. Ford has a little clip that people want to mess with even after the TPS connector is disconnected from the harness, they force the connector and break the "slide". This "slide" is about 1-1/2" long. I've seen more broken "slides" on the mounting bracket than ones that are not broken.
Compare these two next pictures with my first two and you will see the part that has broken off of your mounting bracket.
Originally posted by MikeFleming There was a time if you bought the Motorcraft version of the TPS it came with the gasket, two new screws (to hold the TPS to the body) and a new connector brakcet.
Don;t know if those parts (gasket, screws and bracket) are still included with the TPS now.

I looked into a box of a new TPS that I have from Ford (Motorcraft)and there are no screws or the mounting bracket that you need.
I just stopped by my local Ford parts desk and asked
1. Can I still get a new IAC and how much would it cost? I figured if it wasn't an arm and a leg why not get one. No luck! They don't make it anymore. (My local NAPA has it for 90 so no big deal)
2. How about a new TPS just for kicks. The guy said HE needs the part number because when he tries his computer sends him to the whole Throttle Body Assembly part. When I asked how much for the whole assembly he tells me it (and all parts associated) are no longer made.
It really is amazing what Ford chooses to no longer make for what is arguably once one of their flag-ships. I have a co-worker with a 68 Mercedes Benz SL and he says he can get anything for that car directly from MB.
Bottom line...Does anyone here know the Ford part number for the TPS so I can bother the parts guy tomorrow? (NAPA says they can get that as well for 50)
Thanx
Chris
