  • Timing

How would you set the base timing on an engine that does NOT have a spout connector/plug coming from the TFI harness? I just got my early 84 back together and have discovered that there is no spout/plug.

    Thanks,

    Chris

it looks different on 84's -- it's a round thing as I remember

to set the timing correctly, you would have to chase down the proper wire, and cut it while you set the timing, then reconnect it.

Cut it.... yikes. What color is it? This is going to be loads of fun. I replaced the old TFI pigtail about a year ago. So..... there is a nice tight loom that will have to be cut open.

I seem to remember the color yellow in there somewhere -- not sure it is has a yellow stripe, or if it is a yellow wire..

I hope your TFI plug has colors -- the repacment tfi plug I just bought has all black wires running out of it.

The original wire for the SPOUT is yellow. However, the color code for the replacement harness connector is (in order from top to bottom) Black, Black, Black, Black, Black, and Black.

The SPOUT connector goes on the second wire from the top.

Here is a picture of my early 84. The previous owner added a plug to use as a "dis-connect" for the spout.

Now if I just had a timing cover, I could time it.

Cool, cut the yellow and add a plug. I think even I can handle that.

              Thanks, Guys,
