  • High Flow Fuel pump

Would you gain horsepower just by adding a high flow fuel pump without an adjustable regulator? thanks.

None... the same you would gain by adding a highflow pump WITH an adj fuel pressure reg.

Unless your existing pump isn't keeping up.

so with modifications just adding a high flow pump wouldn't make any difference? thanks

          Correct.

The only thing a new/high flow fp nets you is that its providing the proper amount of fuel pressure and fuel flow. This of course depends on the fp regulator. An adj regulator allows you to increase / decrease fuel pressure based on additional mods (larger injectors, larger turbo etc) you may plan on or have already installed.

As bud said, it gains you nothing as a stand alone installation other than piece of mind that your fuel system is up to par (and ready for future mods).

I am planning on doing some stuff to the head, but i would just rather get a high flow pumpo right now and not the adj regulator, i was just wondering if its worth it.

Is it worth it?? That is a tough question for someone else but you to answer. Getting the high-flow pump is a step in the right direction. If you feel it is needed right now, then I would suggest getting it since you will need it at some point. As your modifications warrant it (i.e.- lean conditions in the upper rpm), you can get an adjustable FPR and tune in some extra fuel pressure. Just my $0.02.

                Emissions?

Will replacing your pump with a high pressure intank on earlier models such as a 255lph mess with emissions? Since you guys say it wont mess with performance, will it affect emissions with stock pressure reg.?

Again that's a subjective question. On a stock car, no. A new pump will only ensure you are getting the fuel you need in the higher RPM range; specially with the 85.5 86 cars with the 85lph pumps.

With no increase in fuel pressure, injector size or intake/exhaust mods there should be no increase in emissions. In fact, it could actually reduce them if you have a mixture problem due to fuel delivery.

it shouldn't -- the only way it might is you are moving more fuel -- which means you may "stir up" a few more vapors -- but as long as your gas tank vent is working properly, it shouldn't be a problem.
