  • Question: 3" Downpipe

Getting ready to upgrade the exhaust and put in a 3" downpipe. Noticed that both Sac Mustang and ATR have a 3" downpipe with an intergral wastegate, is this better than going with just the straight downpipe?

Both Sac Mustang and ATR are both made by ATR. Sac Mustang does sell a 3" downpipe that mounts directly to your existing turbo elbow. The big difference besides price is that with just the downpipe, the exhaust outlet from the turbo necks down to ~ 2.25" and then flares back to 3". What that actually means on a Dyno, who knows? Probably not much.

I guess if you are shooting for some big HP #s then the ATR probably makes more sense. More flow, more go.

Before you put an ATR pipe on your car, test fit it first.

I have one of ATR's older pipes (uses an external wastegate) and had a fitment issue. The pipe was made wrong and hit the firewall. I had to slightly bend my firewall to make it fit right. I am not the only one who has this problem either. The other way it could have been fixed was to heat up the pipe and hammer a flat spot into it.

          Sac Mustang

I have the Sac Mustang 3" downpipe that bolts directly to the elbow and fitment is perfect.
