  • Dashpad colors

I am looking at buying a new dash pad for my 85 svo. They all say light grey and dark grey but with no pics. Would you say the svo would be light or dark grey on the inside. Any thoughts would help, Thanks,
    A.J.

    Reccomendation

If you call Late Model Restoration, they can compare the color to the owners SVO that sits behind the shop... They did this to make sure I got the right color carpet. They really went out of their way gor me. Most places just said "Well, if it's not right, you can send it back, and we'll send another color". I was trying to get my car together in time for a show, and didn't want to go back and forth.

    Their website is www.50resto.com
I think they need to change that, because they carry 2.3, 5.0 and 4.6 stuff now.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

      Pad or cover?

Unless something has changed in the quality of the dashpads offered I would go with a cover. If you haven't already , look at this entire thread http://www.svoca.com/forum/showthrea...&threadid=2006

        Repro Dashpad Sucks!

Unless you have money to burn and don't care how bad the finished product looks, I would stay away (FAR AWAY) from the repro dashpad. When I called the company up that makes this piece of junk to complain about the poor fit and appearance I was told "We know, but since it's the only one available people buy it anyway".

I went with a dashcap instead and am a lot happier with the result.

I just read one of the mustang mags that the 50resto one is made from original ford tooling. They were doing a fox body interior restoration, and they were impressed with it... I'd call them and find out for sure.

Okay...so do we know for sure whether the pads from 50resto are the bad ones or not? If they are for sure than someone suggested a cap. Where do I get a good quality cap?

My friend accidentily stuck his hand through one of my speaker openings the other day and I have it apart and don't want to put it together looking like crap.

            Any help is much appreciated.

Curious to know this as well. Previous owner installed a cap on my dash pad. While it does look pretty good, I prefer the look of the OEM pad (not wavy, not "puffy" looking).

Obviously, no one has followed up on this. I suggest one of you guys that has the question as to whether the dashpads being sold are any improvement or change over the reproduced ones from a year ago call 5.0 Resto and discuss it with them.

Personally, I would not believe and have little regard for some report in a magazine whose only function in the world is as an advertising media to sell parts. Biased? -You Bet! Have you ever actually installed some of the crap that is touted and promoted as "speed equipment" by car magazine articles. I have! Hence, my cynical attitude.

Anyway, call the folks at 5.0 Resto and talk to them about it. They will know.

EyelawDoc... I'm not sayig I believe them either...
But they did say it WAS made from Ford tooling... That's better than "It looks waaay better than before" while under their breath there saying "Man, there's gotta be a better choice!"

Oh Yea... 50resto has the plastic covers also.

Don't forget about junkyards!! We picked up a really good dashpad at our local junkyard that was a perfect match for color for 10.00

Truthfully I have been through all of the local junkyards looking at all of the cars using the same dash pads and they all seem to have the speakers punched through or have massive cracks and the speakers are ready to punch right through. I just want the dash to look right and not be crumbling to pieces.

Here in the west, it is tough to find a nice pad in the junkyards. Most I see cracked, rotten and in terrible shape. Every now and then a good one comes along, though! It is kind of like searching for a gold nugget!

I guess it pays to be in Northern California then because we see them all the time up here and in good shape. I guess L.A. area is picked over.

I suppose us folks in SoCal get more sunshine and hence more cracks and dashrot than you in the north. I'd encourage you to mine some more of your local supply and help us all out!
