This is kinda hard to explain, because it doesn't do it all the time and its hard to reproduce it also.

Sometimes when I go from second to third it like bogs down or maybe even back fires a bit. There is a few times its done it from first to second but those are rare compared to going to third gear. Now it doesn't do this all the time, and will do it at zero boost or mild boost. I'm not sure at WOT.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

Ok if I do a tune up should I go ahead and replace a few things like TPS,IAS, and the EGR? I know this will run into a few bucks, but I want mind if it gets the car running smooth all the time.

I'm sure these things are pretty old and my car does have some weird idleing issues, like high idle from time to time. Then its got very low at times wants to die when I come to a stop lights sometimes also.

      Thanks

        Sure......

.....the parts are electrical and heat sensitive over time.......Save your old ones for an emergency...You never know~ e.g. your TPS right now could last another 10 years & the new one could last half.......

Mine is doing the same thing. Since you're having problems with the idle I would suspect the TPS.

I've never replaced one of these before is it a plug and play item or do you have to calibrate it or something?

Also is the IAS a plug and play item also or does it require calibration of some type?

            Thanks

Just to be safe I'm going to run some injector cleaner through it also. The car was parked for awhile before I bought it so it may can use it.

I would check the TPS and clean the IAC, check and clean the EGR, but wouldn't necessarily replace them yet because that weird idle issue, where they bump up a little, and drop down, is just part of the 84 svo's. And after you drive it hard, then let off the gas and it drops to 500 rpm and then it dinks around finding it's way back to 900 rpm. It's still gonna be there.

The '84's just do that, slow processor and early generation computer. That's why people upgrade to the '87 - '88 TC computers. Supposed to solve all that and everyone swears by it, plus we pick up some horsepower.

My buddies '84 he bought a couple weeks ago w/ 47k on the clock, compared to mine which has 150k, they both sit there w/ the stupid idle miss. Both have fresh Motorcraft tunes, TPS's adjusted.

I'm gonna be out of town for a couple weeks, but doing the computer swap as soon as I return.

I do have a miss (posted about it yesterday) similar to yours while driving. Still trying to debug that issue. It's run like a top for 2 years. Let us know how you fix yours.

Right now I'm going to do a full tune up and replace the, fuel filter(s), IAS, and TPS. That should help some lol

My car idles around 1000 -1200 most of the time if its different its either higher or lower like what you said about driving it hard.

I need to look into this EEC swap more, they say you need to put a ACT sensor on it and not sure on how that is done. Also need to look into how to re pin the harness so it plugs in right. I got a 88' TC parts car with a LA3 I could use and I guess the ACT stuff off it if its got one.

                    Thanks for the help.

Ok I may not replace the IAC unless it needs to be replaced. Sorry but at 69.99 that is a chunk of cash to waste if its not out lol I will see what the car does once I do a full tune up and replace the TPS.

Thanks for the link also on the EEC swap

the EGR will probably cost nearly as much, and as long as the diaphram is good, it will be fine with a good cleaning.

I hope I don't tick people off here, this is kinda getting into a whole different subject

So if I do swap in a LA3, it would be a good idea to swap in some different intakes with a ACT sensor on it already? The intakes I got are the old inline ones and I was thinking of doing this anyways. When I do swap the intakes everything should just bolt right up except the EGR tube, if I remember right. Now does the intakes and EGR tube off a 88' TC bolt right up to the older 85' SVO or do I need the trottle cables etc also ?

                            Thanks alot

Dang lol. Ok so how do you go about cleaning this sucker then? Just disconnect the EGR and clean it with some brake cleaner? I know sometimes they get carboned up and you just knock that crap off. Sorry I usualy just throw the EGR in the trash and plug the hole I would just like to keep everything as factory as I can or factory looking since these are pretty rare cars.

                              Thanks
