  • Rubbing, Help!

I just installed a set of 95 cobra Rs with 235/45/17 contis and i recently swapped my springs for sportlines. Now it rubs on any sort of bump, street inclination, everything! I hate it. Whats the smallest tire i can run on this rim guys? Also, I see that Lee Clary has my setup... sortof but i know he has flared fenders in front. What can i do to keep from rubbing. Rear fenders are rolled but i could do a better job on it soon and as far as my fronts, they rub on hard braking.

When you put in the new springs, did you install new rubber or poly spring isolators. I know my original rubber isolators were hard and flattened when I changed my springs.

Based the tire size spec sheet on TireRack.com it looks like you need either 225/45/17 or the better choice for a lowered car is 245/40/17.

    The 225/50/16s are 24.9" dia.

    The 225/45/17 are 25" dia.

    the 245/40/17s are 24.8" dia.

the 235s you have are 25.3" dia.

      Rubbing

Thanx for the time and research mike, that helps me a lot. And for the record, i only swapped the springs and no rubber anything although they are in great need of replacement, i did it at work in a hurry. I definately want to replace all my rubbers and bushings with polys, think this would help out?

Also, today i bent the rear fender lips completely to the metal flat with an air hammer and slightly in the fronts and there is very minimal rubbing in the rear on hard bumps with no spare tire hardware or passengers. Still not satisfied, i don't want any rubbing especially if i got passengers. Im considering putting my stock springs back on the rear.

So the 245/40/17s are the better choice huh? It seems as though looking at the tire to fender clearance, lowering the profile would help significantly. Would 225s even fit on this big ole' rim? Im not sure what it would look like with 225/45/17s but im guessing itll look kinda "webby" wont it, specially with my huge offset.

        Izzy,

I don't know what the 225/45/17s would look like. I was just basing those on the tire diameter and its relation to the orginal tire diameter.

I believe the 245/40/17s are what I have seen others here post what they used.

I like the idea of 235-40's...then you stay the same width as you are now but get a bit shorter.

They will probably always drag at some point though...the backspacing/offset is wrong and nothing will fix that
