  • Could a sticky injector...

cause a miss/stutter at a specific rpm? and then apparent pinging from that one cylinder as boost and rpm increase?

I've got a suspicious #2 injector. When I did the full tuneup the plug looked pretty beat up (compared to the others), gap had opened to .042.

I can think of nothing else as the problem.

Problem occurs at 3400 rpm if I'm at 2/3 throttle, I can make it pop and stutter, or just go to WOT and it will blow through it quickly, but I can hear a bit of pinging. And it's not the typical all cylinders pinging tuning problem. It really sounds like just the one cylinder.

Fresh fuel pump (190 lph - had it on a shelf), fresh fuel filter, secondary pump yanked.

Can the VAM be figured into the equation? I've had a lot of VAM flutter lately that I didn't have prior - or am I just hearing that as an effect of this problem?

I thought I cured it w/ a tuneup, but it is back and getting worse.

    thanks!

Mike, strange you'd ask. Yes, I do know the history and know it most thoroughly. I received good thorough information on that topic sometime back.

Well if I'm gonna do that, I've got some Browntops to send off for cleaning. When I get back I'll put in those,an LA3, Act Sensor. Maybe that will solve it.

Bummer though I hate having a miss.

On another note: Do you know the history of the currently-installed valve stem seals?
...this may have been a serious question. I answered as I did because of a thorough explanation you gave me on 2.3 valve seals way back.

Yep, 7k on them, the last type w/ the metal casings. Synthetic Oil, changed 3k or less. Car never smokes.
