  • Racing harneses

I am planning to do some auto-x (and road racing if possible) this year, and I'm thinking about the best mod I'm going to find will be a good set of harnesses ...

So -- I haven't looked at the first one yet, so I don't even know how much they will cost -- but I wanted to get some recomendation from those that know a bit about them.

Here is a twist for what I am looking for too (Maybe??)

I'd like a harness that I can swap between my SVO, and my 2003 --

Is there a good harness out there that I can swap between cars (without too much trouble?)
I'd love to hear some recomendations!!

    Thanks!

Plan ahead, but don't buy too soon.

A good five point harness installation is outlined in SCCA competition manual. It's in Appendix Z, I believe.

Some sanctioning bodies require the date on the belts to be less then two years old, so new belts that have been sitting on the shelf for a year have lost 1/2 of their useful life already.

The shoulder harnesses need to mount to something, like a horizontal tube on the roll bar. The height of that bar is important for the harness to be effective. Appendix Z shows why.

Pat - I know you have some experience, but you're getting too far ahead of Eric - his experience level - and his car.

        Eric .. check http://www.racerwholesale.com/

Cam locks are nice, but more that you'll need. A 4pt Y-type latch/link (L/L) would probably transfer back and forth pretty easy. If you have one of those magic star bolt rachet attachment .. where you can remove your rear seatbelt bolts .. then you can use it to secure you harness. Just be sure to order you harness with a 2" bolt end.

I would not use a harness without a roll bar on the road coarse. You cannot get the right angle on the shoulder part. Another reason is in case if a rollover without a roll bar and the roof comes down on you, your body needs to be able to move towards any voids. Auto-x is different, speeds are way slower so the possibility of injusy is reduced.
