  • Tranmission/Shifter Questions

Okay folks...I'm planning on upgrading/refreshing the interior of the SVO next weekend and I'm thinking about swaping out the worn leather boot and shifter handle. It's my understanding that the threads on the stock shifter handle are metric and therefore any new shifter handle would have to be modified. My answer to this is to replace the shifter with a Pro5.0 and new leather (Motorsport boot and handle). My question is...will the Pro5.0 shifter work with the transmission on the SVO? Are there any "pit-falls" I need to be aware of before doing this? What transmission came on the '84 SVO? Thanks for the help....I'll make sure to take pics during this process.

    Shifter upgrade

I just swapped my original shifter out in my track car for a Steeda Tri Ax and a Ford Motorsport leather knob. It is very easy and is hard to tell from the original (It is a little shorter.) I flipped a coin between the Pro 5.0 and the Steeda, they both appear to be well made and comparably priced. The shift knob looks nearly identical to the original but it lacks the Hurst logo and fits normal shift handles. The part number is M-7213-A. I picked mine up at Jegs for about $40. The shifter came from Laurel Mountain Mustang as they offered free shipping.

      Jason,

Go check out FAQ area/product review or try using the SEARCH feature in this forum. They all come in handy from time to time. The FAQs will tell you about your tranny. And, yes, all aftermarket shifters that are made for the FORD T-5 will fit your SVO's tranny. There's also a write up about shifters in the product review section.
