  • what sensor am I missing?

    Hi,

I've got a sensor connector similar to the KS and ECT sensor connectors. At first I thought it was an ACT, and it seems to fit an ACT from the parts store, but I've read that our SVOs don't have ACTs and the ACT I got from the parts store didn't fit in the opening in my Xr4ti manifold (Standard products part #AX3).

So I'm confused... Is there another sensor on the SVO that could plug into this socket? I've got the fan switch, oil temp sender, ECT, KS, and coolant guage temp sender covered already. What other sensors are on that side of the engine?

    Thanks

PS the connector is the mirror image of the ECT connector.

    Maybe?

Isn't the AIC plug the same/similar and close proximity to all of that?

Is the wiring harness the original '84 harness or a replacement?

There is a similar connector that is mounted on the steel oil spout bracket. It plugs to the ignition harness that comes from the starter relay area. Maybe the injector harness plug?

The harness as far as I can tell is an original 84.

GABoySVO, you mean the harness that has all the plugs to the fuel injectors? The car runs (though very rough at cold start) so I don't think it's that...

kiwi, what's an AIC??? did you mean IAC (idle air control)?

It is crazy the two of us have the same issues. I found MY connection at the lower (from under car) intake for fan switch, and the stinkin sensor broke as I tried to plug it in. Drain coolant again.
Can you describe your connector better (where it originates)? I know these things like the back of my hand now (for an 85.5)

I don't have it here in front of me, but maybe I can borrow a camera and take a pic at home tonight. As best as I remember, it's a black, somewhat barrel-shaped round connector, with one square corner, like the ECT and KS connectors, 2 pins.

Actually, found a good pic at napa:

            part #: ECHTSC100

This page is either gone or not working. Please feel free to go back to the home page.

I think that's it, or very close to it anyway. Though its only listed for V6s and V8s, not Turbo 4s. I know the ECT and KS connectors are similar, but not identical.

Like I said b/f the ACT sensor that seems to fit my connector doesn't fit in the single hole on the rear of my Xr4ti intake. The threads in that hole are the same as for the knock sensor. Anywhere else that the ACT could be located?? and if so, what goes in the hole that I've got???

            Thanks

PS: I'm learning the diffs between Xr's, svo's, TC's and different model years! My 84 SVO has 86 SVO exhaust; an 87 Xr4ti motor, turbo and alternator; TC fans, overflow bottle and valve cover. Even I'm confused as to what to tell the parts guy at the counter sometimes!

              connector ....

Here's the connector that was unconnected when I got the car....

I'm pretty sure this is the ACT, but...(see next post)

                location...

...it doesn't go in the threaded hole that's in the pic. This intake has the KS pointing toward the fender, NOT the firewall and only has one hole where the arrow points. Isn't that where the ACT is supposed to go? should the ACT and KS have the same threads?? My KS fits in either hole
