When I rebuilt my '86 SVO engine, the tube for the turbo's coolant inlet was so rusty that it broke when I took it off. Now I have a piece of soft copper tubing that I bent in the shape of the old tube and installed. So far it hasn't sprung a leak, but I fear that it might. Has anyone else made this same repair with copper tubing? I'm wondering if I should be concerned about the copper corroding then leaking.
...or if you have a spare OEM tube you'd be willing to sell me, I'd be willing to buy. (I did make a post in the "want-ads" section of the site but no one who replied had one handy to sell me).
As long as the fittings on each end are tight and don't leak I personally don't see where it would be a problem. I have a 55 Willys Jeep that uses copper oil lines on the old style cannister oil filter that hangs off the side of the block. It had about 250,000 miles on it before I rebuilt it and it never leaked or corroded.
I made a similar swapout. My new feedline consist of a copper pipe commomg out of the turbo and a length of high temp heater hose (the red stuff) running from the valve cover line to the turbo. Been about 6 months, no problems so far.
