  • It's ALIVE....Well almost!

I finall got a few good days to really kick butt on the SVO. I got all the fluids in. Just a slight leak at the back of the motor. Prolly rear main seal, this engine and car have sat quite awhile... Getting fuel, small drip at hairpin clip going into pulse dampner. Gonna try a new clip first, if not then new o-ring. Maybe the seal will swell with liquid on it and stop leaking.
I got all the air intake system put together. No exhaust past the cat yet. Gonna be a bit loud at first. I tuned the key on and jumped out the fuel pump test to prime the fuel lines. Well, here goes... Crank...... Small cough..... Just crankin'.... Well almost ran!
I ran KOEO codes and came up w/ TPS too low (63) and 67 which I cant for the life of me figure this one out. It spells out as Neutral drive switch, or neutral gear switch, neutral pressure switch, clutch switch, manula lever position, or a/c clutch.... HUH? The only one I can think of even remotely coming into play on this antique is the a/c clutch. Which w/out a compressor its kinda tough to have...
Now for a "hmmm" question. Is there a good starting point for setting the distributor? I'm figuring that I need to play with that to get the timing correct for it to fire. I'm prolly gonna pick up a remote start switch so I can be right there and play with it as I crank... And to see if I'm indeed getting spark. Just curious if there was a right start point say like TFI end pointing at 4 o'clock or something simple like that....

    Thanks, Eric

    code

Just check that your accs are off and the premium switch is on. I know it will throw codes if not set correctly but I cant remember which codes.

That was my next question. I dont have the switches in the car. I think I have them somewhere amassed in the various and sundries... If they arent connected wouldnt it just run on the regular fuel setting?

        code

On my actron code scanner it says to have the preimum switch on. I was on crack when I said about the accs. It will give you a 67 code.

okay, since I prolly wont be able to dig them up quickly... Which ones are the fuel switch hanging under the radio? And which to jump out for Prem?

          Thanks, Eric

Also, there is a theaded hole on thre right front corner of the T/C intercooler. Points tward the airbox... What is this for? I think its for the BCS.. But the Garrett has the fitting on the outlet of the turbo, where I guess this was for the BCS on the T/C. What thread is this to plug it?

            Thanks, Eric

              TC IC

On the Tc IC you would plug that port with a vac plug to use on the SVO. I am not sure how it is hooked up on a TC. God knows I have raiped atleast 7 TC's I never realy looked just started cutting.

                timing marks...

Okay, now that Ive established it is getting spark also. Did the old timing light while cranking since I didnt have a helper... I'm double checking the distributor installation... If the marks in the cam and crank are on, the disty should be pointing at #1, correct?

                Thanks, Eric

Yes, but. You need to make sure that you are at TDC on the compression stroke then the rotor will point to #1 plug.

Just put a pipe plug in the TC IC. If it is a large hole, the previous owner may have used it with a boost by pass valve. That is where most guys install the Tiny Avenger kit.

The code 67: There is a switch in the transmission that signals if the clutch pedal is engaged to allow for starting. On my 86, if I don't press the clutch in, it won't start.

                    IT'S ALIVE!!!!

Yes the timing was the issue... Was on the compression stroke, just almost one post off on the rotor... Reset---- Turn key---Crank----- VROOOMMM! WOO HOO!!! Kinda loud in the garage! HUH? Can really hear the turbo with the open exhaust after the gutted cat. Now I guess I need to hang the muffler from the old Borla cat-back I had lying around from a 'bird thats long gone.
Now for the weird part- As I was turning the disty (with out engine running) I would hear crackling and the fuel pump would run and the injectors would click... Sometime they would stay doing this click, click, click..... Any thoughts? Cut open the harness prolly some insulation is shot?

                    Thanks, Eric

P.S. Ken, ya owe me some beer!
