  • Clutch problem

A couple months ago I tried to start the car, but when I pushed in the clutch, it kinda felt like something snapped, and then the clutch pedal just dangled there. I havent had time to mess with it since I've been in school. Does this sound to you guys that the dogbone clutch cable broke? I sure hope so.. i've never messed with anything on the clutch but I've read about that little cable and it doesnt sound hard to replace.

...just trying to get some input before I get under it spring break...

    thanks

Yep, definetly sounds like it. Or maybe the long cable(usually unlikely). Stick your head under there and take a gander... If you haven't moved it since the pieces might be laying on the ground under it... If all that is well check the quadrant under the dash... The nylon gets brittle with age.

Yup, sounds like that 2 inch long piece called a dog bone cable that's located between the clutch fork and the bellcrank. It's a $15 part at autozone.

The dogbone cable is located underneath the throwout fork boot. You have to pull the boot out of the bellhousing to see it. Alternatively, it could also be a broken long cluthc cable (also available from autozone) or a broken clutch quadrant.,

Here's hoping it's the dogbone. It is the easiest and cheapest to replace.

Yup, this happened to me about a month ago. Driving home without a clutch was an adventure. Pissing people off by revmatching and slowing down but never stopping all the way home.. heh.

Dogbone cables are about $14. When you take the old one off, make sure that there was nothing rubbing on it. New one goes in in about 10 miinutes. Easy fix.
The BATFE should be a convenience store.

you need to find the cause of this problem ---

if you have a groove on your bearing retainer, it will cause this to happen again.

just soething you might want to look into.

Hey I forgot about this post - Just wanted to let you know the new dog bone cable works fine. Had to readjust the clutch a little bit by just sticking foot under the pedal and pulling up til it clicked. Everything seems fine. thanks
