  • Rear brake cable bracket

I pulled the brackets for the rear e-brake cables to clean them. The left one had a "L" on the bracket for Left. The right side had a "L" on it as well and is a "left" bracket and not a "right" one. The bracket was installed this way from the factory.

Anyone else seen this? Is it standard to have a left bracket on the right side or did the factory worker pull the wrong piece?

My 86 has one marked R and one marked L. They APPEAR to be idential but I did not remove them to do a real close up exam.

I did a little closer exam of the two brackets last night. I still did not remove them to compare, but each one anchors the cable housing and angles it towards the arm on the caliper. If you have two alike, I think the emergency brake on the incorrect one would not point toward the caliper e-brake arm unless you twisted the bracket some to make it line up better. Hope this helps.

        Cable bracket

Since my first post, while I was down at My Ford dealer, I inquired about the part # for this bracket. It came up as the same part # for both pieces. Before reading your post, I assumed that Ford used 2 left brackets and just made this bracket work. It does work, but it appears to made for the opposite side (hence the "L" on the bracket). I will add a picture next time I get a chance to better show the situation.

TN SVO 86, As for being identical, do you mean left & right interchangeable or they are identical but made for left & right sides only.

        Thanks for your input,

I do not think they are identical, but they do appear to be similiar enough to be able to interchange them with one another. I did not remove them to compare up close today, but I detailed them while the rear end was out from under the car a few months ago. All I did today was look closely at them while I was working on the rear calipers.
