i wanted to know if any stock 8.8 rear out of a 87-93 mustang with a 5.0, lx or gt model came with a traction-loc differential? did the 8.8 lock both wheels like the svo 7.5 rear? will the 8.8 have posi like the svo 7.5? did they have like the same differential?

8.8 rear questions?

The GT Mustangs generally all came with the Trac-loc. With respect to LX 5.0's I can't say. Both 8.8 and 7.5 trac-locs work the same. The 7.5 and the 8.8 are not the same differential, but the 28 spline SVO axles and rear disc brakes work with both.

All 8.8 in Mustangs had the traction loc. The gears were only a 2.73 in the manuals and the 3.08 in the automatic unless you chose the no price 3.08 option in your manual on the order blank. All of the LX and GT 5.0 cars had the 8.8 traction loc. It was available from 86 on. If you are after the 8.8 dont forget the gearing that you will need to keep the turbo in the RPM range you are used to with your 3.45 or 3.73 in the 7.5 you are currently running. The 2.73 or 3.08 rear gears could be a very disappointing swap.

The 8.8 sitting on my garage floor out of a low mileage 89 LX 5.0 is painted black from the factory. So is the 8.8 in my 84 Ford pickup, the one in my 88 Mark VII LSC and the one in my 86 GT Vert parts car. I don't know about all of them, however.

AFAIK all natural/rust just like the 7.5s. All the ones I recall seeing anyway, though none of them were low mileage.Last edited by frankiesaysrelax; 03-26-2004, 01:40 AM.
