Okay,

I know that this is a common question on a lot of boards, but I have never heard an answer that makes sense....

Why do our T-5 transmissions whine?

Is this normal?

What are the first logical things to check?

I had the same problem on a 5.0, and finally had to have it rebuilt, after that, it was quiet as can be. This trans only has about 42k miles on it. (It is 16 years old, though).

I just want to be able to have everything nice and quiet...Is this possible?

Anyone? It whines excessively in 1st, and 2nd, then lessens as you go up in gear...

Rich, I can't say for sure, but maybe one of your shaft bearings is on the way out and it is causing the gears to not mesh properly.

This sounds funny, but are you sure you have the proper amount of fluid in the trans? What kind of fluid are you running? It should be ATF, not 80-90W gear oil. Other than suggesting you bring it to an experienced shop, you could try giving the folks at D&D Performance a call to see what their expert opinion may be (248-926-6220).

When you find the problem let us know as I am also experiencing the same thing with one of my cars.
My car just recently started whining exactly as u described.I changed the oil to Red Line but, it still whines.

So, then you guys are saying that this is NOT normal, and I should have it looked at?

It has always done this, and I was just wondering why they are like that.

Like I said before, I had a 5.0 with a T5 and it whined all the time. I had it upgraded (rebuilt) to a world class (wasn't originally) and it stopped for a while and returned later???

I was just assuming that this was somewhat normal, and you guys had done something to make it go away....

Okay, well, i'll have it looked at and let ya know what I find out!
