  • Rotors

I am in a dilemna! I go to the local auto parts store and buy rotors for the front brakes. Just standard Bendix rotors, nothing special. After completing install the stock wheels will not seat.
Is this a problem anyone else has had? Do I have the wrong rotors? That's the only answer I can come up with. Have e-mailed Bendix but no response yet? The curve inside the wheels does not match the Bendix taper on the end of the rotors.

Does anyone know of a better product? Or something within comparable range?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Sounds like the wrong ones to me but I'm just guessing. Did you save the old ones to compare?

      Thanks for the response, Ken!

That's what I figured. I mean...not to sound like an idiot in saying "Are these the wrong ones?". That was instantly what I said...the old ones are identical and you'll get a kick out of this..they have been ground down(and not well either). The edge of the rotor has been beveled(sp?) to accept the wheel.

      Hopefully Bendix will respond promptly.

What kind of rotors do you have on your car? Did you go beyond stock and take a step up to something else?

      Thanks Again!

I got my rear rotors from 5.0Resto. If you want an upgrade, you might check out Stillen or iRotor.com

Both my 2R and the Frankenstein car have the stock SVO rotors and wheels. I've only changed the rotors and rebuilt the calipers on the 2R once. The Frankenstein car was all new / reconditioned components and had no fitment problems aside from the modifications to the shock towers and the tie rod ends. I've never done a rotor change on the 1B and wasn't really looking when it got new tires so I can only assume they're stock. There is another relatively new thread about the SVO LCA's that was started last week. It gives the Lincoln cross reference by year / make interchangability with the SVO. You might want to ask for the Lincoln parts to compare with the ones you have now?

              Thanks Guys!

Yes, I have stock wheels on both my '84 & '86, and never had a problem with the '84.

I heard about the interchangeability of Lincoln parts I will have to check that out too.

Bendix has not returned my e-mail yet so maybe I will just look at upgrading. Though wouldn't I have to upgrade the calipers too?

God, for a parts store just to have the right stuff in stock. I have old rotors which are worn and could be turned but they have been ground down to fit the wheel and new rotors that don't fit full of grease and bearings.

Thanks Again Gentlemen! If I find out what the problem is and any significant parts numbers I will put them up.

if they are the stock wheels -- then you certainly have the wrong rotors --

These are the common problems SVO owners run into trying to use chain part-stores. even when you tell them it is a SVO, they still don't get it right most of the time.

I have had pretty good luck with auto-zone for the little stuff-- I've had really bad luck using advance, and a few other non-national locals.

For anything more than a PCV valve -- I usually call Paul @ SVPU, or Jim or Brian @ motion dynamics -- I don't think I have EVER had to return somethng because it wouldn't fit from them.

I had to do the same thing on saturday night!!!!

when the wheel was bolted on, it would wobble (luckily I tested it before driving the thing!!)
what I did was take a carbide bit and take off approx 1/8 off the corner of the rotor center. then the wheel fit on there perfectly.

I would have taken mine back too, but I had then cryo treated (just to see if it makes a difference)
