Has any California owners had a problem with emission test with a header installed?

You should only have an issue with the visual part of the test. Provided you're running the stock or TC IC, that tends to hide the fact that its a header pretty good.

None of my cars have a header but my 84 was just smogged and it has an FMIC, K&N on the VAM, and no muffler and he passed it. The numbers were clean too.

Are you worried about it, did the tech fail you for it, or are you just curious?

I'm sure someone else in Cali has passed a smog with a header in place.

Joe, I don't have a header but I've had good luck with US Auto and Glass on El Camino in Santa Clara. They seem mostly interested in getting the job done.

The car has been in inopertive status for the last two years since I have been working on it for that long. Getting ready to get it reregistered and smoggged, and was just thinking about putting a header on it now or wait until after it has been inspeceted for this year.

Who's header is it? Rod's? ATR?

Is the turbo in the stock location?

As long as the header isn't too "bling-bling" and you run the test with a TC IC in place that should cover it up enough as to not stick out or cause attention.

Depends on how much of a risk taker you are ultimately. Its highly probable that it should not give you any troubles... ...but are you prepared to have to take the time to pull it if no-one will pass it?

I was looking at getting one of Rod's. It will have a FMIC so the header will be more visible than normal.

I'll be at Knotts. I was thinking of bringing a beater if Mike (AT6SVO) brought his beater. That would make Phil C's car look like a trailer queen if he parked between us. If the 84 is back fron D&D, then at least the beater will have cool control arms to gawk at. The other beater would be the 86 Hot Rod editor's abortion that was rescued by several of us out here. It's pretty straight but would win the fugliest paint award hands down. I'll probably bring along a few "show and tell" project parts too.
