  • 85 stumbles & dies

85 9L has PE,35# injectors, new IAC,newVAM,disconnected knock sensor, disconnected & bypassed boost solenoid. TPS seems to be ok. Getting about 14 miles/gal. Upon returning to idle, car drops down to 250 rpm & sometimes dies. If it stays running, it surges 250-1000-250-1000 rpm several times & then kind of levels out. Not a real smooth idle, but not a severe miss either. Runs out great at any speed, but turning in to the drive with no power steering & brakes is getting a little hairy. Future improvements are new cam, ported e6, & Gillis valve. Car has 67k miles on it. Would like to solve this problem before I make any more changes. Thanks, Jeff

Have checked for any error codes? I believe you need the electrical side of the boost control connected with just the vacuum lines bypassed.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have not been able to pull any codes. Forgot to add new o2 sensor. You must unplug the boost solenoid & control when upgrading to a PE.

if the car isn't missing, it almost has to be vacume, or TPS related ... MAKE sure your PCV valve hasn't popped out of the lower hose.

with a PE (or any other SVO computer) you can unplug the boost circuit with no ill effects -- the computer don't look for feedback from the controler, it only sends signals to it.
