  • Power steering pressure hose

    Hello to all,
I got a new problem. My power steering pressure hose has failed. The swevel connection at the pump no longer seals and new "O"rings didn't do the trick. The connection is just too eroded. The part is discontinued and hydraulic hose shops say they can"t make one. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    The Gripper!

    Thanks fellow Tucsonan,
I checked on Parts America and low and behold there is a hose for the GT that looks like it will work! I will give them a try. I own a box stock 84 model with 245k on it. I use it to commute between Tucson and San Diego. I have worked on everything at one time or another but this hose has been the only leak I haven't been able to correct, now it has finally failed. Thanks again for the info.
    R/Brian.

      Dang pump and hose! *%#@$#%

While this isn't on my SVO it's still a power steering hose and pump problem on a Ford ( 90 LX 5.0 ). I replaced the pump on the Frankenstein car and when I tried to screw the high pressure line into the new pump it doesn't quite seat properly. The fitting seems to be tight / screwed all the way in but the line itself is still loose. The O rings are good. I haven't filled the pump and started it yet but I'm pretty sure it's gonna leak. I was thinking if I can remove the fitting from the old pump and swap it into the new one? Has anybody tried or done this? Are springs / ball bearings / check valve going to fly apart if I unscrew the main fitting from the side of the pump? I really hate to have to remove and replace the old line as it wasn't leaking when it was last running. I'm also not sure if a new hose wouldn't give me the same problem. The old pump was toast from running on the limiter at Road A. just a few times too many. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

That's one helluva commute. When do you find time to sleep?

Wow, I use my 222K mile 84 SVO as a daily driver too! You have me beat as far as mileage. Are you still running the original motor? What parts have you replaced?

The line on mine is also loose after tightening the fitting and I have no leaks. I think it is supposed to be loose.

I went ahead and swapped the main fitting from the old pump to the new one, screwed it in and it was still loose. I then had the great idea to maybe check my other Mustangs and they were all loose also DOH! I guess I get the Homer Simpson award on this one! All my previous experience was just taking them apart... Never changed out for a new one... Live and learn!

They are all supposed to be loose like that so the hose can swivel. As long as the coupling does't leak or come apart, don't worry about it.
