Hi!
The '86 is ready to go back on the road here, but, of course, I decided to refinish the grey trim on the doors, and have been decending into madness ever since...
How hard can it be to paint the trim grey, anyway?
Pretty hard, it seems. The Finishmaster dealer in town can mix up the PPG color listed in the stickies, but it brings to light an issue. It can be mixed 15-20% gloss, and I have no idea what the gloss should be...and more importantly, if there were actually two different grey trim paints used.
I pulled my mirrors, thanks again for the help, and find that the inside is almost flat and has a texture to it, as do the rocker moldings. The rear wing seems to also be almost flat, but the heavy texture sort of gets in the way of actually telling what the gloss level is. The door trim has a sheen to it, when you look at the inside.
Two different paints? I have no idea about the bumpers, having seen my last new one 18 years ago, and memory is the first thing to go. I have seen the bumper trim done in both semi-gloss, and almost flat, but both on refinished cars, so who knows.
I tried the MarHyde 3821, and it is satin and smooth in texture, and slightly dark. Does anyone know how good the SVPU paint is? It sounds like a pain to mix the PPG in a Badger...
Thanks!
Dave Riedle

) wing assembly (third tail light), and it is most definitely textured. And yes, it's color is yet another, darker shade of charcoal. Now I use Back to Black and I try not to rub so hard.
