  • And the madness continues...

Does anyone know how to remove the hood adjustment pad hardware from the radiator support panel? I have a damaged adjuster…rubber is disintegrating…and the part is NLA. Ford, and 5.0 Resto have a new part with a nifty molded Nylon base sold as a direct replacement, but the original hardware does not move. It looks to me like if you cut the two tabs off that the hardware would drop through the panel, but I am a little hesitant to want to cut these before I know if this works. If so, this would be a nice solution…no more messing around with the adjustment lock, etc.

    Anyone know?

Amazing how just wanting to repaint the trim leads to such madness...I am sort of looking forward to finding the next thing that needs to be repaired, replaced, etc.
Probably will be something I have never even seen, much less something I thought I would want to repair or replace. Kind of like Christmas in May...

    Solved!

After borrowing a fiber-optic camera (really cool!) and looking up at the hood adjustment pad base from underneath, I came to the conclusion that you do indeed have to cut the fastener off. It's a little more difficult than usual, since it is hardened steel, but I used a House of Balsa 1" Tuf-Grind abrasive cutter and Dremel to cut them off. Worked like a charm. The trick is to use a small wheel, and take your time so the wheel does not grab and damage your paint.

If you use a Dremel to cut stuff, go to your local hobby store and pick up a couple of these. I have never had one explode ever, even for cutting off hardened drill bits, etc. Good stuff!

Thanks for the info! I picked up the kit from 5.0 resto and was looking at mine today.

Did you cut the stem and the rest came/fell out?
