  • Got em Back

Well, got my rims back from Wheel Worx and man......what a difference! I can't believe I waited this long to do such a painless thing.
And get this.....each rim was slightly bent. Two were wobbling in and out, and the other two were wobbling up and down. I guess that explains my vibrations at 60!
    Take a look

So, the cutouts are the "rough" cast look, right? They look almost white in the picture? Just curious...is that the "stock" finish, or the "polished"?
Great looking wheels, either way! (read: Rich is jealous!)

      Funny you would mention that!
Bruce at Wheel Worx said he had mixed results stripping the clearcoat and NOT painting the rough cut-outs. Sometimes the "rough" aluminum would "spot" or come back in different hues. So he kinda strongly suggested I let him paint the cut-outs. He said many owners either paint them black, body color, or the most popular...silver. He had a silver set already done, so I chose silver. He polishes the rims and then clear coated them.
      I attached a close-up!

        Thanks for reminding me...

That's just another one of the many things I need to do... I have 3 sets I need to have refinished. I think I'll go with the silver also. Yours look really great. I wish I could do all 3 sets at the same time... $$$$

          stock ride

It has been so long since I have seen a stock ride height car. the rims look good. I am working on sending a palet of rims hopefully in the fall.

When the perform the restoration do they just give the wheel a freshening with a new machine finish on the surface?

They completely clean and remove any and all surface treatments, paints, clear coats, front and back. I had actually refreshed the clear coat myself many years ago, and THAT is what made them look like crap. Then straighten the rims, fix up any and all "zits", curb gouges, blemishes, and scratches, and polish the face (mine were all bent a little). They then paint the "holes" (if you want, I did silver). And finally, clear coat the face (looks like more than one coat, but forgot to ask). All this for 125 per wheel, minus 100 for being a member of SVOCA, and 15 per tire to mount and balance. All weights on the inside. 1-year guarantee! Total....$460! In on Monday, out on Friday!
And those guys are busier than a one-armed paper hanger.
Well worth the cost in my opinion. They really do look like a million bucks, and I couldn't be happier. Now I gotta get the clear coat I put on off of the faces of the lug nuts.
