  • steps to polish them wheels myself?

I know I can send them off, but it would be kinda fun to do the work myself if I can.

Anyone used a buffer/polisher wheel on them?

If someone knows the steps and stuff to use I would really appreciate it. A previous owner took all the clear coat off them, I'd just like them to be as shiny and smooth as possible.

    -thanks

I have some steps around here somewhere on this here computer....

I'll check and see if I can find it..

I am here to tell you tho, after the second wheel, you're gonna say DAMN!! this is a lot of freaking work!!!

I'd rather drop the trans, and put a new clutch in than try to polish them wheels (again)

well, if you can find it - that'd be great. If not, no worries.
In my twisted way, I enjoy clutch jobs and working on my cars, so maybe it's the ticket for a great Saturday.

I polished my wheels as well as painted all the insets black to hide that all to common brake dust between washes. I didn't polish my rims to a mirror finish, just a nice shiny machined finish. While I don't mind the look of a mirror polished rim, it isn't my cup of tea on my own ride.

I left the rims uncoated, but that is not too much of an issue. I wax them every wash (don't laugh it works) and give them a nice hand polishing every spring when I bring the car out. A pic of one of my rims can be seen in my profile on this website if you want to see how it looks.

I stripped the factory clear coat paint with marine grade ZipStrip brand stripper. The stuff works great and won't eat the rubber on your tires. Next I scrubbed all the gunk out of the holes with a standard wheel cleaner and toothbrush. I masked off the wheel surface and painted the insets with 3-4 coats of Krylon paint. Lastly I hand polished the wheels with Rolite metal polish/fiberglass cleaner:

I probably spent 2 hours per rim on just the polishing part, so it isn't a "huge" job, but not an afternoon one either. Good luck with your project.
