  • Dew wipes???

You know, the rubber thingie at the top of the door on the outside of the car (bottom of window)?
    I need new ones!
Just wondering if I have to get the SVO specific ones, or will any of them work from the same era?
The price for the SVO ones are like twice that of the regular. Can I use them with some modification, or what?
    Thanks,
    Rich

    lower window weather seals

as i recall i bought mine from jc whitney. i also bought 4 sets(just in case). the ones from fomoco are NOT the correct color for the svo and will have to be painted). fyi. all the door seals and trunk seals are also available from jc whitney. they work fine.

So, you're saying that I can use the normal ones (not SVO specific), right? I thought I saw somewhere that you can. I realize that they will need painting...

There have been at least a few threads on these seals. The SVO uses the same basic door as other Mustangs. You can get these pieces from several different Mustang vendors. Try 5.0 Resto ( first choice ), Texas Mustang Parts, and maybe Mustangs Unlimited. They usually come painted black. I had given a rather detailed description on how to remove then paint and replace the rubber portion in one of the other threads. Search by either door seals or window wiper seal. You do have to remove the door panels and rear view mirrors to do it properly.

Thanks, Ken. I'll do that. I searched before, but didn't find what I was looking for. I'll try the different terms.

Okay, after doing the correct search, and looking back at 5.0 resto's website, I guess what I meant to ask is can one use the 87-93 style mouldings?

No, the seals changed after 86. The 87's to 93's used a seal that is pop-riveted to the top of the door. There is then a thick plastic trim piece slides onto studs to cover the rivets and that connects the mirror base to the newer style quarter window glass trim. I was going to do a SVO sail panel / quarter window conversion on the Frankenstein car but then changed my mind. The seals from 79 to 86 are the same.

...Mike you are one of the best....

...that is why I bother you from time to time...i just did mine and the process is exactly as you describe....no need to remove the door panels....in my case there were no screws in either door...pulled them up and install the new ones in place....
I kept the old ones just in case I can find how to replace the rubber blades....
