  • Oil Loss update

well guys I almost have the leaks all figured out. I replaced the pcv with ford oem. I then replaced the oil filter and in that process I found that my oil cooler was a little loose and apparently leaking. I was able to get about a turn on it without too much effort. I also was unable to find a replacement gasket for that thing. I thought there would be an o ring or something between the block and cooler but ford doesnt sell it if there is. I didnt remove the cooler after I heard there were no parts available. Anyone know what is under the cooler and where I can get a replacement?
I also figured out after stopping the engine leaks that the tranny rear seal is dripping onto the cat. I just balanced the stock driveshaft and removed the damper with limited success. In my 5.0 experience the only time a tranny will leak with a good seal is when the tranny is too full. I have not checked the level yet but I suspect it may be overfull. any thoughts or comments?
Finally do you all recommend the red line synthetic manual tran lube? I used it in my last t5 with much success.
    Thanks

    Engine oil cooler gasket

    Corey,

Jim @ PPI has the gasket for the oil cooler. Give him a call at 703-742-6207. I don't have any answers for you on the rear trans seal, just replace it. I've only used Mobil 1 synthetic in my trans with no problems.

If the bushing in the tail shaft housing is worn it will leak even with a new seal.

        Tranny Lube...

I personally do not recommend the MTL. I recommend what is suggested for all T-5’s, which is the ATF. Red Line makes a great ATF and I use it in all of my T-5's. It saved a tranny that had sat for a while and seemed a bit noisy. The tranny has now run with Red Line ATF for 20K Miles with out any problems on a fairly modified motor.

Good luck with you project and getting those leaks taken care of.
