Ok guys my overboost/EGO light comes on when I start the car and stays on for a while then maybe the next time after I stop somewhere and start the car again it doesn't light. Is the is the "bad oxygen sensor" light? Here's a dumber question, I don't see a check engine light....how do you know when the computer codes, like the check engine light on newer cars. Thanks
Easy to run the codes. If it is the check engine function then it should have a code. If it is staying on when you are not under boost then it should definatly be the CEL.
Either buy a scanner, use a voltmeter or wire up a switch.
It should flash the codes on the EGO light , but I would check it first to be sure before I hard wired anything.
Its acually pretty easy. You can either just use a jumper wire or wire in a switch so that you can run codes while you drive.
Yeah I kinda figured that the EGO light was the "check engine" light.....brilliant deduction huh?? I am familiar with the jumper to code procedure.....tried it on my SHO which uses the same architecture in the computer but I found that the codes read out too fast and it's hard to judge that X second interval that breaks the digits up. I will probably take it up to Autozone and hhave them read it out. My guess it that it will be the oxygen sensor......or some kind of vacuum code(is there a code for vacuum leaks). The car seems to run great even under boost, so misses skips or anything. My SHO codes once in a great while due to the fact that it dumps hordes of gas into the motor when the secondary runners open up after 4k. Mostly when it's cold out but it hasn't been even close to that lately...I'm burnin up!!! Thanks for the help.
