  • installing remote door locks

I'm installing a remote entry on my SVO -- I read in the manual (who knows if it was written for cars as old as the SVO) that on Fords -- there should be 2 factory relays for lock and unlock -- does anyone know where they might be (If our car even has it)

If not, I know how to wire up the relays, I just don't want to unless I have to.

AND -- I can't seem to find my wiring diagrams today (Grrrr)

    thanks!

Eric when i got my 84 it had a keyless entry/alarm. i took it out cause that alarm aint gonna stop anyone!
anyway the relays were built into the "blackbox" i didnt see any for the doors. i could be wrong tho.

I'm not worried about the alarm -- not even hooking it up , I just like to be able to unlock the car without the key (LAZY!!)

also -- My install will be completly undetectable

        Eric.......

        ......Shave the handles man!! Jkiddin'

I thought the alarm mite have its own relay & you'd tie into the main switches at the drivers door.....sometimes there are 'adder' features to the alarm brain.....

          kit

I installed a Ford kit into my 95 Contour a few years ago. The instructions were universal and covered many years. It told you what color wire to look for and where to find it. The instructions also gave step by step procedures on how to confirm the correct wiring either positive or negative wiring. I don't recall a relay. One wire had to be cut and put in series but I dont recall if it was the PL.

I just bought a Ford kit for my 85. I have not yet installed it. The instructions are at www.fmcdealer.com or www.inford.com under accessories area. I have not looked at them yet. I would expect the same detailed instructions. My kit is 2w7z-19a361-da. Take a look

BTW MCA does not take points off for a Ford alarm system when showing.

Edit: Ok the links need a password. I'll have to get back to you.

I'm not sure what FORD would only need the one wire, but you DO NEED 2 RELAYS (SPDT) -- so my instructions are bunk

My 'alarm box' has negative inputs to kick the lock/unlock.

Some alarm boxes may not be the same, but 2 relays are required -- (one for unlock, and one for lock)

I have already installed the relays, and have the wired up --

If this was a MCA Judged car, they would NEVER KNOW the car had remote keyless entry -- I could tell you the car has it, and you wouldn't be able to find it

Once I get this tested, and make sure it works like it should, I can post wiring diagrams if anyone wants them.

              Locks

              Eric

You have the same idea as I was planning. I just got the Ford instructions last night.

They only list one relay but maybe Ford (Audiovox) uses a double one or something. It says the lock wire is PK/GR (pink/green stripe), positive voltage and located LK (lower kick panel?) it is type #2 circuit same as tbird, tarus, & F150 all for 86. Unlock is PK/YL (pink/yellow stripe) and the rest is the same. These new instructions are not very detailed like the last ones I had. It lists point A and lists point B. I guess all that is left is to connect A to B. I recall the last time, I had to cut one wire at least maybe 2. That would be the ignition kill power I guess.

well -- here is what I did ---

                The lock/unlock switch is a 5 wire deal --
while I know what the docs say (pink/green) -- My wires are pink, and I can't find any off color on any of them...

took the drivers side door panel off
removed the drivers side kick panel
ran 4 (12 gauge I believe) wires into the door through the rubber connecting thingie (used a coat-hanger to push the wires through) -- a little lube helps them slide in easily
Figure out which pink wire is + when locking, and obviously the other is + when unlocking -- mark this, you will need it in a second
Cut the 2 pink wires -- I cut mine about 4 inches from where it connects to the lock/unlock switch
Mark each side of the cut lock/unlock
hook 2 of the new wires to each of the 'motor side' of the pink wires
hook 2 of the new wires to each of the 'switch side' of the pink wires

I put my relays on the inside of the kick panel, I didn't want them in the door getting slammed every time the door is shut--

                You need 2 SPDT relays--

                relay one (lock relay)
                87 12v
                86 12v
85 (negative) lock activation from your alarm
87a switch side of cut lock wire
30 motor side of cut lock wire

                relay two (unlock relay)
                87 12v
                85 12v
86 (negative) unlock activation from your alarm
87a switch side of cut unlock wire
30 motor side of cut unlock wire

The 4 12V's needed from the relay I T'ed from the power that runs to the door (black wire, right there in the kick panel -- probably a good idea to put a fuse in-line -- I put mine before it splits out into 4 wires.

EDIT ::I assume everyone would know this, but I'll add for any novices that happen to look this up.

I solder all wire connections -- then wrap with tape, or use heat-shrink wrap on them (depending on where they are)
Inside the doors, I use heat shrink wrap, as it could see some moisture.
