Anyone else have trouble with the SVO wheels? I have a tire changer and balancer and have not had any trouble with any of my other cars. But the SVO cannot not keep a tire balanced. 50 mph there is a slight nibble. I have tried different tires, sometimes better.
Are you sure your rims are true? I recntly had mine reconditioned and all four were bent a little. I was kind of surprised to see just how
You may need to replace your drive shaft with the aluminum one. For some reason the original ones "go bad" at around 90,000 miles (probably from hanging around the drug store).
I did that as well and no more shimmy at 55.

It is definately in the steering. The wheels looked straight enough though. What is weird is the OD of a couple of the wheel is ok but the casting of the holes in the wheels are not. Not the best quality I guess.
have ya tried marking the weights on the tires. white/yellow marker a dash for the weights and an arrow "--->" for the valve and see if that tires shift on the rims.
I think it's tires.
You get what you pay for in tires. If you buy the SALE ones from Tires USA, etc., beware.
I hated the Gatorbakes that came on mine.....noisy after 20,0000, tried Michelins ...noisy too at 20K, Yokahama AVS...not bad, and have Dunlop Sport D40-M2 on it now (I wish someone would slash em)
Has anyone found the perfect tire for our SVO's????
I just want quiet tires that grip good, no need for rain as I would never drive her in it......intentionally. Money is not a problem!

Are you sure it is not your rag jont in the steering. We had a car that had a bad shake at hway speeds. Turns out we were missing 1 bolt and the joint was shot.
Since you have ready access to a wheel balancer, why don't you remove the tire and weights from one of the wheels and see how much weight it takes.
I had a consistant slight shaking at speed with the orginal SVO rims on the "Road Warrior". Balancing the tires never seem to get all of it out. I assumed it was the lower springs transferring road bumps into the car. Then I replaced the SVO rims with '99 5-spokes using the same tires and the vibration disappeared.

SVO4PWR2 : They are not taking much weight, 1.25 oz. at most.
I have new Khumo 711 tires. I had Yok ES100, worst tire ever. I have to say that it is better with the khumo's.
NY eric: The rag joint is about 2.5 years old.
GAboySVO: That is the next step. I have thought about different wheels but I want to keep the SVO wheels.
There was a TSB out a few years ago about slight steering wheel shimmy on 94-95 Cobras. The problem was the Cobras had softer rubber in the front lower control arm bushings. Maybe something similar here.
Make sure all 5 lug nuts are the same or SVO type. The svo wheel lock is specially designed to match the weight of the lug nuts. Regular mustangs require an extra weight 180 from the lock.
Try moving the wheel to the back of the car and see if the problem moves. As for tires, the cheap Kuhmos tend to get flat spots. I still have the original NCTs and they will flatten a bit if sitting 6-12 months but come back to shape after 10 miles.
The topic of SVO specific locking lug nuts came up at Carlisle but no one seemed to have any details. I have a set of F0ZZ locking lugs that are the same size as the SVO lugs but are .5oz different. It was the general consensus that such a slight difference so close to the center of the wheel (compared to the differences out at the wheel rim or sidewall of the tire) would be negligible. I suppose as an experiment would be to remove 1 lug nut or replace it with a lighter one to see if the difference is noticeable. Do you have a part number for the SVO locking lugs?
I had tires (Generals) on my daily driver that refused to stay balanced. Worse tires I ever owned. My SVO has cheap tires on the original wheels and I never had an annoying issue with the balancing so I would say there's no inherent problem with the SVO wheels. Just my 2cents.
