  • Marchal Lamp Seals

I found a couple of NOS Marchal lamps lenses in a dealer buyout we did last week and thought a swap with mine would be in order. Mine are pitted from road dust and debris and look their age. They were the E0TZ lamps with the correct glass "cat" lenses, but a chrome bezel for trucks instead. I thought I would extract the lenses from the bezel and mount them in my SVO bezels. The lenses are secured in with some hard rubber goo that was really dried up on my lamps and pretty much peeled out in a ring. Any idea what this stuff was? I was thinking of using something like Liquid Nails as a replacement. It's pretty impervoius to heat and probably won't melt. Anyone have another idea? Most silicones just won't stand up to the forces required to hold the lamps in the bezels. We used to use some roofing adhesive in my construction days that would be ideal, however I don't want to buy a case to get it.

    Thanks

DO NOT use Liguid Nails!Go to a body shop supply and get a caulking tube of the adhesive (it is black) that is used for installing windshields. Use that. It is what the pros use for resealing the Marchal lights. If you can't find that, use black Butyl Rubber (not silicone) caulk from Home Depot.

      Bad Liquid Nails!

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure it was butyl since it was so hard and brittle, but as I think about it, butyl would have been the right stuff for that type of application. I appreciate the comment. I guess the L.N. will stay on the shelf for now!
