sticky gooey armrest / doorpull

I'm not sure of the proper term put the doorpulls on the door panels are sticky on my car. I clean them and they continue to ooze. Is it just the plastic breaking down from the heat here in Florida? Is there a fix?

Take the armrest off the door and wash it out with soap and water all the small compartments inside the rest. I believe they used some kind of silicone as a mold release and often times after 20 years the mold release agent that was left over on the inside chambers of the armrest gets runny and starts to ooze out. Yuk!
