I'm looking for opinions on dual purpose tires. My '86 is daily driven and auto-x'd once a month. The current tires are on their last legs. Can't justify R compound tires yet but want something better than the hockey pucks I'm riding on now.
Specifically: Has anybody used the Yokohama AVS intermediates to auto-x their SVO? Good, bad or neutral results? What kind of mileage did you get from the tire? Etc., etc.
    Thanks for any input,

    Russ,

I would go to your next club's autocross and have a look around at the guys running in STS. The Houston Region's next autocross is Saturday afternoon, July 6, if you want to check out some of the STS cars here. :-)

      AVS Intermediates

I bought a set a few weeks ago but have not run them yet. I bought them for open tracking because they were dirt cheap!!The reason is they have been discontinued. The TireRack listed the size I wanted, 225-40-17 for $69. They did have 225-50-16s but that was a few weeks back.
At half the price of the Kuhmo MX's I figured I couldn't go wrong.
Before I purchased them, I asked a friend who open tracks and auto x's nearly every weekend for his input. He said Porsches and BMWs used to run them when they were a "new" tire with good results. When I told him the price he said you couldn't go wrong.
