Ok...My 85 SVO is completely stock except for that compressor bypass kit from tinyavenger.com and a boost controller valve. I have the boost at normal boost. When ever i am gunnin the motor down the strip, the motor seems to misfire or start bogging around 4,000+ rpm. It started doing it like a week ago, i haven't done anything to the motor. I tried tightning the turbo hoses and i put in new spark plugs. Also, the car seems to idle ok except when im driving normal and i reach 3,000rpm there is a tiny misfire that is consistant. When i had this problem before, i changed my plugs from cheap bosch plati-dumbs to NGKs. The car ran perfect after that for a while and then 3 months later, it started doing this. I have no idea what can be wrong. MY mileage seems to suck too. I have a feeling that im running rich because i can smell raw gas when i am at a stop. I did a compression check and i had 165 on all four and i hooked up the scanner and all it sed was that my TPS was out of range. Could my TPS be the cause of all these problems. I've owned my svo for about a year now and the previous owner told me that i neede to get that fixed but i never did. Sometimes, my engine idles funny like it has a vacuum leak or big cam and it even stalls occasionally. I am so frustrated, someone please tell me what i should do. you can also e-mail me at izzyiskool@hotmail.com

The TPS can make you run rich at idle, and that does need to be adjusted.. it's not too hard, I think we have the procedure posted here somewhere.. if not, we can, I'll look after I post this..
You have to start with the tune up stuff first... O2 sensor, dist. cap, and rotor, PLUG WIRES!! -- Turbo engines are HARD on plug wires because of the heat generated by the turbo... If they are 1 year old, I would almost bet they are toast... It depends on milage too, but It soulds like they are over a year... I bet it is time to replace them...Eric C

Start over for a second if ya dont mind.
Did it do it before the bypass..? Try pulling the vac hose off the bypass and plug the vac line. ( this will make the bypass non-functional ) If it still does it then we can eliminate that.
Then, after that pull your plugs, check the gap. it should be at 35-36.
Pull the wires and toss them away. Get some 8mm silicone ones from Autozone ( the aint the best, but i never had a set arch on me ) .....i dont care what anyone says the motorcraft stock replacemenets ones suck. Then get a new cap and rotor.
Put it all on there and hit her with the timing lite.
Then pull the IAC motor and clean her out with some elect cleaner.
Sounds like she needs a simple tune up.

Thanx for the info
Hey thanx guys for the advice, im going to go buy some new wires right now. Although, i must say, i did a complete tune-up about a year ago when i had the same problem too. Hmmm, i never thought of that. The wires are looking kinda old now. Also, the cap and rotor i changed a little bit ago, maybe six months? Oh well, im going to change it all again...see what happens. As far as the bypass, it does it still even with it disconnected (does anyone really feel a difference with that bypass kit?...i sure didn't. I kinda think it doesn't do much for me, should i just get rid of it?)

If you dont have a K&N , or other intake mods, you won't notice much difference...
The valve is not really to help performance, as much is it helps the turbo.
When you generate high boost, and let off the gas quickly (say to change gears) , the pressure builds up in the tubes and it puts a lot of pressure on the blades. The bypass helps relieve that pressure , so it helps your turbo last longer.
If you threw on a big K&N Cone, and disabled your by-pass valve, you would hear what I am talking about pretty quickly.Eric C

runs good now
Ok guys, i finally got the new wires, cap & rotor, and regapped the plugs to .036 and the car runs perfect again. Istill need to adjust the TPS but i am heading to Phoenix this week until wednesday. Although i do admit, with the bypass valve, i notice that the car doesn't exactly pull as hard as it used to, maybe its just me getting used to the car? hmm?
thanx
