    One more thing....

Someone asked me about some more details on the cam...

    It uses a roller cam.

I not sure if its a regrind off of a ranger cam but its got 460 lift, Dur 215 @50, and L/S 113. I'm not much of a cam geek but thats the info he gave me.

He ended up using lash caps (???) with the stock valves (it's a big valve head)

I'm not much into swapping the cams but because it's the stock valves I should be able to put the stock cam back in the car if I wanted to without pulling the head. (Right???)

Passing smog is not an issue as this car is strickly a road racing SVO that is trailered to all events.

Once I get the car on the track I'll give my update but I did do quite a few things at once (breaking that all important rule in racing of just do one thing at a time). I ended up upgrading to a big valve head, ported, polished and extrude honed the head, ported and polished the intake manifold, new cam, and probably will end up putting in bigger injectors but havent done that yet.
Hoping to get on the track soon

Vince -- you confused me a bit --

are they big, or are they stock ??
or, do you mean stock length?

sounds like he reground (maybe a ranger?) and then is using a smaller circle to get the bigger lift.

The lash caps, (if they are what I think they are) -- when he re-ground the ranger cam, this made the lobes smaller, to bring the valves up to the height of the cam, he used the lash caps, which basically extend the length of the valves, to reach the smaller circle.

You can change the cam without removing the head, but you will have to take the motor mounts loose, and jack the front of the engin up high enough to clear the radiator support.

        Big valves

I ment big valves, stock length. The cam that was in the head was a stock SVO cam. The lash caps do what you said.

I've replaced a few camshafts in my car and never had to do that. But I did when i got a "ranger roller" out of a later Mustang at the junkyard.

umm -- ok -- how did you get the cam out if you didn't jack up the motor ?

I just noticed this is in the product review section -- splitting it out now.....

I just pulled it out. It clears the rad support when I pulled them out. I've done it at least 3 or 4 times in the last 15 years. Maybe something is out of whack on my car.

You don't need to jack up the motor to change a cam. At most, you have to loosen the radiator and lean it back a bit...it depends on your radiator height. You just need to carefully work it out.

I have had two cams in and out of my SVO in the past few months and not once did I have to jack the engine up.

with a new set of motormounts -- I could not get mine out without jacking the engine. maybe that is the difference

Jacking the engine isn't a big deal anyway...
