Just wondering what everyones opinion is on changing the recessed headlights to the flush lights. I really like the flush better. But at the same time I don't want to be "that guy", similar to putting cobra badges on a GT.

That's not at all similar to putting Cobra badges on a GT. It's fine. Do it.

When we bought our 84 it had an 86 wing and the headlights were changed to the flush ones. After several years of confusing people we are now in the process of changing things back slowly. But I prefer the flush look too and that will be the last thing we change back on ours.

I did the opposite to my 86. I bought new headlights and after a couple of months water started getting inside. In an effort to save them I installed the recessed lights. I used euro spec H4 lights and bulbs, 60w/100w. WAY better light pattern and I am kinda getting used to them. I would like to find some clear covers for them.

yeah i had the lights and brackets in my parts pile when i bought my car, but after looking at both on here so much, i decided that the recessed lights keep it farther from the other mustang lines....so it greew on me. maybe im losing a few points in the coefficient of drag department, but thats what torque is for.

I converted my 84 to flushmount lights back in the fall of 85. I still prefer the flushmount look!

Just a headlight side note : The 85.5 SVO was the first car of any of the big 3 to have the flush / Lexan headlights from the factory. I believe it was also the first with stainless steel exhaust.

Actually the FIRST car with aero flush/Lexan headlights sold in the US was the 1984 Lincoln Mark VII. I don't know if that counts as a"Ford" or not. It is really just a big Mustang!
