  • Replacing Shift Boot

Finally getting around to the last thing before reunion.
I have an NOS Shift Boot that I'd like to put in. I notice that the original has a glued-in nylon washer with a steel washer glued to it. These fill in the "hole" of the inverted leather boot top and provide a nice hard surface to tighten the lock nut up against.
The NOS Boot is different in that it has this "hole" filled in with rubber. If I just put a steel washer up against this rubber I get the feeling I will be able to tighten the lock nut on the shifter until the cows come home and just bulge out the rubber, and the sihft knob won't ever tighten.
    Has anyone ever done this?
    See attached picture
    Thanks

    Chris,

The way I understand it is the plastic washer pinches the boot between it and the knob. Then comes the steel washer then the jam nut. So you will need to use all of your old hardware.
