Will a regular mustang hatch work/fit? Mine is too rusted to work with.

i wanted to switch to a fiberglass and keep the defrost too, i THINK that everything will work just the same, but the wire that is used as the ground will have to go all the way back to the body instead of just to the underside of the hatch......meaning drilling new holes......possibly on the passenger side?

Kenny, I have removed 2 hatches in the past month. I think you will find that the ground wire for the defroster runs all the way to and is achored by a ground screw into the unibody on the left (driver's) side, underneath the inner trim panel on the c pillar.

i think for the other side its just a plug into the defrost and a bolt to the hatch...passenger side. ive removed maybe 5 before but it hasnt been recent, ill have to check mine out, its covered by the inner plastic piece but i dont have mine on. so i was thinking the passenger side was the ground and the drivers side was power.

Correct, driver's side=power, passenger side=ground. The ground wire is about a foot long and is secured to the underside of the hatch under the interior panel. I've thought about this, too, and may run a spare wire when I pull the wire on my glass hatch, should I feel the need to run the defroster again. BTW, the rear window with defrost is about $40 _cheaper_ than the one w/o the defrost. They probably sell more with defrost.
