  • Computer or MAF upgrade first?

I have an 86 SVO that has been highly modified including 42# injectors. I would rather put the money into a EEC Tuner and software or Mass Air Flow System than sending my VAM to be tuned.
What is recommended first, the EEC-Tuner or Tuned MAF from Modern Performance? The cost is near the same? I plan on doing both if people think the MAF would be that much better over the VAM once the EEC-Tuner is installed.
    Any one?
    Thanks,
    Brian

if you get the EEC tuner, you probably wont need the mas-air .. depending on your setup, and how far you intend to go.

I can't remember exact flow numbers on the VAM, but they are pretty far up there before you run out of air.

My bet would be for the Tuner first.

I have yet to meet 1 person that is happy with their Mess Air Kit from MP.

Now from what i understand, there are plenty of people happy with the EEC Tuner, and a few have even applied it to the Mess Air kits or adapted 5-liter Mass Air's.

As for the masses that scream about the Vane meter being a "restriction"......

Ask RS450 on Turboford....he was about at 367 Hp and over 400 TQ ( on this motor ) last time I saw.

Come to think about it.,...i'm over 300 at the rear wheels and i still have the stock vane meter as well.

Brian, Go with the EECTuner, the stock VAF can support some pretty big HP numbers with the right EEC settings.

FYI, there is a 2.3L based EECTuner e-mail list on YahooGroups that goes by the name of "tuner23". Randy Schlitz (sp?) otherwise known as RS450 supports the 2.3L community on this list. There are a few folks on the list that can help you get running with an EECTuner.

          VAM Restriction vs. Response?

Thanks everyone for your help. I was not sure and now I have some direction.
More questions about the VAM though...
Will the VAM reduce the response of the power? I was thinking that if you need to move a door to get air through it would be less responsive than if the door did not exist? Hence, using the MAF. Also, in trying to ensure that gravity is on your side and not against it is there a direction that the VAM should be mounted to work best or properly?
I know these questions may seem silly, but being an engineer I am always thinking about physics along with horsepower and since I was not the designer of the VAM I do not know what is best for it.
          Thanks Again,
          Brian
