  • '84 Front Facia Removal

I am attempting to remove the front facia on my '84, along with the front fenders. There are three threaded studs (I think they are studs) from the facia that fasten to the front edge of the fender (in the outer marker lamp area). Attemping to remove the nuts from the studs results in them just turning the whole stud and I haven't found a way to get to the back side of them. I'm at the point of sawing the studs to remove them, but don't wish to do something that can't be reversed. Are these studs molded to the facia or are they bolts or ???. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is there suppose to be some sort of brace from the from the lower edge of the fender/facia back to the subframe?

Also is there suppose to be some sort of plastic splash shield in the wheel wells?

I ask this, as my '84 has taken a hit in the front end and was poorly repaired in the past.

    Thanks in advance,

here are some pics of one I have hanging in my garage. There are studs screwed into the plastic header panel. So theoretical, you can continue to unscrew the studs and they will come out. See picture.

Q: Is there suppose to be some sort of brace from the from the lower edge of the fender/facia back to the subframe?

A: There is the bar that the fog lamps mount to that spans across the bottom of the bumper cover. There are two L-shaped brackets that then attache to the radiator core support.

Q: Also is there suppose to be some sort of plastic splash shield in the wheel wells?

A: Yes, PM US Marine on this site as he has both of these for sale.

I ask this, as my '84 has taken a hit in the front end and was poorly repaired in the past.

          Questions answered

Thanks for posting the pictures, as it gives me a good idea of what I am dealing with. I can see that the mounting studs are not going to screw out of the facia; The stud has a washer at mid body, with a machine thread on one side and a acme thread on the other. The washer would have to pull thru the facia for it to come out. I can see now that my best course of action is to take a dremel tool and cut the nuts off the studs, and try not to mess up the threads too much.

No inner splash shields would explain the area between the rear fender and body being packed with asphalt. No idea as to how or why. Also the damage to the fuel lines in this area.

Again, thanks for pictures, they have been a big help. Also thanks for the parts lead.
